Our Ranch
Ells Cattle Ranch is a small, family ranch located in Central California. We are nestled between the Gablan and Diablo Mountain ranges; close to the small town of Paicines, CA. Our beautiful oak tree studded hills and rolling golden pastures are home to many different types of wild life including, Golden Eagles, Bald Eagles, deer, coyotes and bobcats.
Our unique ranch is the perfect place to raise our 100% Black Angus cattle where they can roam the pastures to find their favorite natural grasses or relax in the shade of our large oak trees.
We are a family operation with the idea of everybody helping (young and old), to primarily enjoy the beauty of outdoors by incorporating a respect for nature by raising healthy, peaceful and content cattle that live a non-stressful life.
Our Cattle
Our 100% Black Angus begin their lives just south of our ranch on a larger property owned by our longtime family friends until they are weaned; between 7-8 months old. Once weaned, we have the opportunity to hand select only steers to be a part of our program. We are cautious to only select enough to be able to provide abundant grazing on our three pastures which we rotate our steers through for optimal grass recovery.
Our cattle roam freely in lush, open pastures, enjoying the fresh air and nutrient-rich grasses of San Benito County in beautiful Central California.
Around 18-20 months, and after weigh-ins along the way, we begin to introduce grains like barley, oats, and corn to their diet in addition to their pasture grasses and alfalfa. Before long, they begin to put on more weight and finish out.
We love our cattle and to be honest, friendships are made with some of them and we hate to see them go but feel good knowing we gave them the best life, full of nutrition, clean water, and above all, loving care!
